Philadelphia residents stormed the streets in wake of the white supremacist rally Charlottesville, Virginia to protest racism and denounce hatred in their city.

On Wednesday, Aug. 16, thousands of people marched in the Philly is Charlottesville March and Rally after a gathering of Ku Klux Klan members, neo-Nazis and alt-right white nationalist groups came into the Virginia city. These white supremacist groups were outraged over the planned removal of a Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee statue.

After 32-year-old counter-protester Heather Heyer and 19 others were struck by James Alex Fields' car, the nation was on high alert for other planned white supremacist rallies around the country.

Residents came out to rebuke all forms of bigotry and racism according to CBS Philidelphia. There were nearly 2,000 protesters marching from the Congregation Rodeph Shalom Synagogue and down Broad Street.

This protest was just one response to the events in Charlottesville. There were others across the country including Atlanta, Seattle and New York.
