Tinashe‘s inescapable single “Nasty” has finally debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 chart at No. 90. The viral hit was released on April 12, and has received over 26 million Spotify streams, Rated R&B reported. Tinashe’s last Hot 100 entry came in 2016 when she collaborated with Britney Spears for a remix of the the pop star’s track, “Slumber Party.”

The 31-year-old singer also charted back in 2014 with her debut single, “2 On” featuring rapper ScHoolboyQ; the song peaked at No. 24.

Speaking of the success surrounding “Nasty,” Tinashe said the track is “meant to make you feel sexy, confident, let loose and maybe even unleash some of that sluttiness inside you,” she said, according to Rated R&B.

“We all need a daily reminder that we are our own muses, here’s the inspiration to embrace it,” she added.

“Nasty” is featured on Tinashe’s upcoming project, BB/ANG3L PT. 2 — QUANTUM BABY. Tinashe first teased “Nasty” via Instagram Live on Valentine’s Day, Variety reported. The song went viral soon after that.

“It’s amazing. I’m just so thankful,” Tinashe told Variety in an interview. “I was saying this to my mom the other day, 10 years later, who would have thought? And I didn’t need this moment. I came to the place where I didn’t need that validation anymore. And I think that makes it even better, because it’s like holy shit, the universe just worked in such mysterious ways.”

Tinashe, who formerly signed with RCA, has now signed with Nice Life Recording Company as an independent artist. In a recent interview with Blavity, Tinashe said this current chapter of her life is “bold.”

“Like bold in my decision-making, bold in my lack of being willing to compromise my boundaries,” she told Blavity. “I’m not willing to make the same type of compromises that I would have in the past about my art, my personal life, about who I am as a person…about the things I want to do and don’t want to do. I feel very self-assured and very bold.”

The Kentucky native hopes more female artists feel inspired to go the independent route.

“As women, we’re constantly fighting to maintain our power, especially when it comes to business and how we’re both seen and how we present ourselves,” she said. “I think it’s really important to be able to be in charge of your own art and to be in charge of your own business. I think being independent, while it’s definitely not the easiest route to take, gives you a lot of ways to have more creative freedom and it’s empowering when you’re able to make it happen.”

Congrats on your well-earned success, Tinashe!
