Is 'Marty Supreme' a True Story?

Marty Supreme is one of the most anticipated movies of this year. The A24 film starsTimothée Chalamet and Gwenyth Paltrow with direction by Josh Safdie. It's set to release on Christmas Day.

The film will chronicle the life of early 1940s table tennis legend, Marty Reisman (portrayed by Chalamet). While the story is rooted in truth, some are wondering how much of the plot is accurate?

A trailer has not been released yet but images of the movie can be found including Chalamet as Reisman in a taxi along with rapper Tyler, The Creator in his film debut.

Multiple sources say the budget for Marty Supreme is $70 million, surpassing A24’s $50 million budget for Civil War. Chalamet said it was intense with 16-hour days.

Marty Reisman’s Table Tennis Career

Reisman was raised in Manhattan’s Lower East Side and became successful at table tennis at only age 12. He quickly began dominating the sport's underground scene.

Not much is known about Paltrow’s character in Marty Supreme but she told Vanity Fair in March this year that she plays a woman who is married to a ping pong player.

Paltrow revealed that there are several steamy scenes between her and Chalamet in the movie. Images of the two kissing on set in Central Park spread late last year.

Tyler, The Creator’s role in Marty Supreme is notably a full circle moment with the line from his 2018 track, "Okra" stating, “Tell Tim Chalamet to come get at me.”

Shark Tank investor Kevin O’Leary will also make his feature film debut in the film. Other stars in Marty Supreme include Odessa A’zion, Penn Jillette and Spenser Granese.
