Ah, the health smoothie. Either it’s too expensive with more sugar than you bargained for or the recipe you tried on Pinterest didn’t come out as “pretty” when you tried it. For anyone looking for a more natural approach to treating a difficult skin condition or simply adding more veggies to your diet, there are a few ingredients you can throw in a blender that can help!  Don’t just leave it to good genes for your skin to flourish each season. Black don’t always crack, but incorporating powerful foods can maintain the magic. After a bit of trial and error, I’ve concocted a few ideas you can remix and make your own.

Enjoy!

Tumeric Inspired To Fight Inflammation

An inflammatory and antioxidant, tumeric when applied to the skin or ingested can reduce itching and fight flare-ups. This spice is easy to work in when cooking meat dishes or curries, but a little more difficult in others because of its distinct taste. Here are a few ways to throw a dash of it in your smoothie for breakfast or late night snack.

1. Tropical Tumeric Smoothie

3/4 cup frozen Mango

1 Ripe banana

3/4 cup frozen pineapple

1/2 teaspoon of tumeric

1 cup of vanilla almond milk

2. Pineapple Ginger Smoothie

1 banana

1/2 cup of almond milk

1 thumb sized piece of ginger

1 tbsp tumeric

1 tbsp chia seeds

1 cup of frozen pineapple chunks

*Add chia seeds for thickness and a burst of antioxidants and fiber

Rejuvenate and revive with antioxidants and superfoods!

Dark leafy greens, berries and roots (like beets) are rich in vitamin A and C for healthy skin cells, and properties that help fight wrinkles and even acne. For that perfect, even glow you can try slipping them into your smoothie without having to commit to cooking.

3. Blueberry Banana Smoothie

1-2 handfuls of spinach/kale

3/4 cup of blueberries

1 ripe banana

1/2 almond milk

1 tbsp chia seeds

4. Beet Blueberry  Smoothie

To prep: Skin and cut beets into medium sized chunks. Boil until soft and store in freezer until ready.

2-3 medium sized pieces of beet

1/2 banana

1/2 cup of blueberries

1 cup almond milk

1 handful of spinach

1/2 tbsp of chia seeds

And finally, go green for goddess-like skin!

This combo is packed with omega-3 fatty oils, potassium, fiber and vitamin A.  Avocado and Kale are considered superfoods, while banana is also rich in vitamin B6. Sip on this mix for a clearer complexion, correcting pigmentation and stay all the way glo’d up, even in the winter time.

5. Green Goddess Smoothie

2 slice of avocado

1 cup almond milk

1 handful of Kale/ spinach

1/2 ripe banana

For once, it’s OK to buy into the trend without over spending.  A mixture of frozen fruit and fresh vegetables is a cost effective quick meal or on the go snack. If you struggle with eczema, psoriasias or dry skin, changing your diet can help keep your skin game on point. Topical treatments are often our go-to, but never discount how much more your melanin will love you for healthy eating habits.
