Detroit police have two juvenile suspects in custody, arrested Monday, following a triple homicide investigation that included the murder of a 5-year-old child.

"This case, like so many others, has tugged at the heart and spirit of this department," Detroit Police Chief James White said.

Two juvenile suspects are currently in custody, arrested Monday, following a triple homicide investigation that included the murder of a 5-year-old child. While the investigation is ongoing as officers seek answers to find a motive behind the killings, Detroit Police said the male suspects, ages 16 and 17, allegedly knew the victims.

On Sunday in Detroit, two juveniles were arrested for their connection to a triple-homicide on the city's west side. The shooting included the death of a 5-year-old boy, Caleb Harris.

Harris, his mother, Lashon Marshall, and her boyfriend, Aaron Benson, were shot execution-style inside their home. Detroit police chief James White shared that after not hearing from them, a family member checked on the household and walked in on the disturbing scene.

"They continued to check the house for additional victims, and unfortunately, they did find a third victim, a child, in a room deceased," White said.

Police received tips and were able to identify the suspects and obtain search warrants for the arrests. The suspects have not been named. Police suggested the murders may have occurred on Sunday, adding that the bodies had been in the house for more than a day.

Harris's paternal grandmother, Shalesa Floyd, is devastated over losing her 5-year old grandson, whom she called a light in the family.

"For you to shoot a 5-year-old in the face? Twice? You could have let him go so he could remain and live," Floyd said.

Former state Rep. Sherry Gay-Dagnogo is a family relative and shared her disgust over the news on Monday.

"What mindset can anyone be in that would shoot a baby in the face intentionally?" Gay-Dagnogo said. "You have to be heartless. There is one thing to even a score or have issues with an adult but a child? A child is off-limits."

Floyd said her son is devastated over the loss of his child and wants answers as to why her grandson had to be killed.

"You could have just left my grandson there alone; I would have come get him," Floyd said. "He could have grown up to be anything he wanted. He's our future; he was our future. Why would you take my grandson from me?"
