Love him or hate him as a performer, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson continues to prove that he’s determined to make himself an industry player, throwing his weight around around both in front of and behind the camera, financing, producing and acting. I can’t say I’m a fan of anything he’s done thus far cinematically, but he still has my attention, if only for the sheer effort he’s been making to ensure himself as relevant in film as he’s proven to be in music.

Today brings word that the rapper-turned-actor has signed on to play a pimp in a movie detailing Alaska’s infamous serial killer Robert Hansen, who reportedly killed between 17 and 21 women near Anchorage, Alaska, between 1980 and 1983.

Titled Frozen Ground, Fiddy joins a cast that already includes John Cusack (he plays serial killer Hansen), Nicholas Cage (he plays an Alaska State Trooper investigating the case) and Vanessa Hudgens (she plays one of Hansen’s victims who manages to escape)

How exactly Fiddy’s 80s era pimp will fit into the grand story isn’t said, though, from the little research I did, serial killer Robert Hansen’s victims were mostly (if not all) prostitutes, so do the math…

Also worth noting, producer Randall Emmett, and Fiddy’s business partner, said that his role in the film is “substantial;” so “substantial” that Fiddy “moved a lot of tour dates and a bunch of stuff that he has on his calendar to be committed and up in Alaska,” Emmett further said.

Principal photography is scheduled to begin in Anchorage next month.
