Rep. Ted Lieu (D-Calif.) openly challenged the GOP about the poor rationale in inviting Candace Owens to a hearing on white nationalism, and it appears the nation couldn't resist the fiery exchange.

Not only did The Hill report that the hearing in which Lieu semi-comically presented evidence of why Owens was unfit to testify on the matter is the most-watched C-SPAN Twitter video, but the social site also went and gave it the meme treatment.

As of this report, the clip accumulated nearly 4.5 million views. HuffPost reports Owens was invited to speak as a witness during a House Judiciary Committee hearing on white nationalism and hate crimes. With the Tuesday invitation, Owens was allowed to talk about her interpretation of the widespread issue she referred to as a "myth" and critiqued Democrats on the strategy by claiming the terroristic threat is merely a tactic to win votes.

Lieu allowed Owens her allotted time to speak but did not hesitate to question the GOP and the Fox News contributor about her ties to nationalism once the opportunity presented itself.

“In congressional hearings, the minority party gets to select its own witnesses," Lieu began. "And of all the people that Republicans could have selected, they picked Candace Owens."

“I don’t know Miss Owens. I’m not going to characterize her," the California legislator said. "I’m going to let her own words do the talking. I’m going to play for you the first 30 seconds of a statement she made about Adolf Hitler.”

Lieu placed his phone to his speaker for all of the room to hear the controversial statements Owens made during a Turning Point USA event last December.

At that point, the Twitterverse sprang into action.

The unenthused look on the congressman's face coupled with how he's holding his phone was just too good. It then became the archetypal visual for how you look when you're unbothered or you have evidence your ain't s**t partner is cheating or when you're generally tired of being right and having the receipts to prove it. But one particular meme took the cake for its level of out-of-pocket, but we ain't mad.

For those of you who have never relished in ABC's TGIT (Thank God It's Thursday) lineup a few years back, Lieu allowed for an opportune moment to flashback to an episode of How to Get Away with Murder.

See the rest of this nonsense for yourself:

“That’s not, to me, that’s not nationalism,” she continued. “In thinking about how we could go bad down the line, I don’t really have an issue with nationalism. I really don’t. I think that it’s OK.”

Lieu hammered home his point, restating Owen's comments and directing his next question to Anti-Defamation League Senior Vice President Eileen Hershenov, who was also invited to speak on the panel.

“So, when people try to legitimize Adolf Hitler, does that feed into white nationalist ideology?” he asked Hershenov.

“It does,” the Jewish civil rights advocate said. “Mrs. Owens distanced herself from those comments later but [the ADL] expressed great concern over the original comments.” Watch below.

Lieu was able to pull out the specific receipts after Owens incited outrage in February when she went on a livestream and claimed she "wouldn't say [Hitler is] a nationalist because he wasn't about putting Germans first."

"There were German Jews that he was putting in camps and murdering. … So that's the argument I was making on stage: This man, by no means, should be considered a nationalist."

USA Today reports Owens, once given the floor to respond, echoed her clarification and erupted into a tirade, accusing Lieu of devaluing the intellect of Black people and categorizing his critique to that of anti-Trump rhetoric.

"It’s pretty apparent that Mr. Lieu believes that Black people are stupid and will not pursue the full clip in its entirety," she stated. “He purposely presented an extracted clip."

"He’s trying to present as if I was launching a defense of Hitler in Germany,” the communications director of Turning Point USA continued. “I do not believe that we should be characterizing Hitler as a nationalist. He was a homicidal, psychopathic maniac that killed his own people. A nationalist would not kill their own people.”

Owens also claimed that Lieu attempted to do to her what she says Democrats do to Trump.

"I stand by my statements. And that is that," she added.

In other words, a lot was going on, and only Twitter could make it all tolerable.
