This past summer, Misty Copeland became the first African American woman to be named a Principal Dancer with the American Ballet Theater. Her documentary, A Ballerina’s Tale, which was released on October 14th, details Copeland’s journey as a classical ballet dancer. The documentary also highlights the racial and body-type biases that persist within the ballet industry and how Copeland interacts with those challenges. Over the next few months, there are screenings of the film taking place across the country.
