Wednesday morning was filled with holiday joy at weatherman Al Roker’s home when he received an unexpected surprise at his doorstep from his Today co-workers.

In November, the TV personality was taken to the hospital for blood clots in his lungs and legs, which caused him to miss the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade for the first time in over 25 years. He recently returned home to finish recovery after spending a month in the hospital addressing his health issues. His co-workers hadn’t seen him since he left and were missing his cheerful spirit at work; they couldn’t wait until the day they could “wrap their arms around” him again.

“The holiday season in Rockefeller Plaza is always the most festive in town, but we have to say it hasn’t been the same around here, you guys, without Al Roker,” Hoda Kotb said on the show.

“Lights are not glowing quite as brightly without our Al,” Savannah Guthrie agreed.

With the help of Roker’s wife, his co-hosts decided to round up some of the staff and crew at Today to bring the holiday spirit to him. They rang the doorbell and waited for Roker to open the door of his home. Once he saw the faces of his work team and heard their voices singing the Christmas classic “Jingle Bells,” he immediately looked overwhelmed with gratitude.

“It’s impressive you did that without a prompter,” Roker joked while laughing with Kotb, Guthrie and the team.

In the video clip that was shared of the special moment, there were more than 20 staff members in Santa hats who came out to show Roker some love. He was teary-eyed with gratefulness while sharing his appreciation for the time they took to visit him.

“I just want to thank you all. It’s been a long, hard slog and I’ve missed you all so, so very much, and all these faces. It just means the world to me and to our family,” he said. “My Deborah, who has just been my rock, I just thank you so much. I really appreciate it.”

Fans also showed the media icon love in response to the video.

A few days prior, Roker appeared on the show for the first time since he left for medical reasons to share a brief update.
