A female cop in Alabama is accused of killing a woman who was part of a love triangle that included another detective.
According to AL.com, 39-year-old Alfreda Fluker is the suspect in the murder of Kanisha Nicole Fuller. Fluker is also accused of trying to kill Mario Theodore White, who is her colleague on the Birmingham Police Department's Crime Reduction Team.
Police said the exact relationship between White, Fluker and Fuller isn't clear, but both women were involved in a relationship with White at some point.
"It's something that's been going on for a little while, but without our knowledge," Birmingham Police Chief Patrick Smith told reporters.
Officers, responding to a shooting at Birmingham's Germania Park on Friday night, found Fuller inside White's unmarked police car. The 43-year-old victim suffered multiple gunshot wounds, including one to the head. She died shortly after being taken to UAB Hospital.
Police said White was also found at the crime scene, but he didn't suffer any fatal wounds and there's no proof that he called 911 after the shooting. The detective was off duty when the incident happened, according to AL.com.
Fluker was arrested on Saturday morning at her home in West Birmingham and was charged with capital murder and attempted murder.
"This is not a press conference that I wanted to give today or any other day, but it's about the facts and the realities of life,'' Smith said.
Police said White is on leave while detectives continue the investigation.
"We followed every protocol to make sure we were doing everything the right way and even it when it leads to one of our own, we're going to make the tough call and take the right actions," Smith said.
According to the Daily Mail, the victim was living in Bessemer with her teenage son. Fluker had been working with the Birmingham Police Department for 15 years.
