Angelica Ross, known for her role on the FX series Pose, is on deck to host the national 2020 presidential candidate forum on LGBTQ issues.

The activist and actress, who played Candy on the hit show, will become the first trans person to host a presidential debate, Gay Times reported.

She will be joined by GLAAD President and CEO Sarah Kate Ellis to moderate the forum and discuss LGBTQ-specific issues with the featured candidates. On Monday, Ross tweeted how excited she was to take part in this presidential event.

Confirmed participants in the forum include Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, Cory Booker, Elizabeth Warren, Julián Castro, Pete Buttigieg, Tulsi Gabbard, Marianne Williamson, Joe Sestak and Amy Klobuchar.

Ellis released a statement saying, “This LGBTQ Presidential Forum is a pivotal moment in the 2020 election cycle. It’s the first time that LGBTQ issues will be exclusively discussed by 2020 presidential candidates on a national stage.”

During the debate, each candidate will introduce their plans to improve LGBTQ rights.

According to GLAAD, the Trump administration has made 123 attacks against the LGBTQ community. The Human Rights Campaign reported 19 trans people have been killed, the majority of which have been Black or Latina, including Ja’leyah-Jamar Berryman who was shot and killed by her ex-boyfriend in Kansas City, Kansas, Friday.

Dedicated to empowering the trans community, Ross is the founder and CEO of TransTech Social Enterprises, an LGBTQ+ co-working and learning space promoting skill development and employment opportunities for trans and gender non-conforming people.

Presented by The Advocate, GLAAD, One Iowa and The Gazette, the LGBTQ presidential forum will be held on September 20 from 7- 9 p.m. CT.
