B.G. may be a free man soon. The rapper is currently serving a 14-year sentence that may end sooner than later. According to HipHopDX, during an Instagram live broadcast, entertainment mogul Birdman revealed that the rapper may be home in a “few weeks.” As of right now, the rapper’s current release date is April 7, 2024.
The rapper, whose legal name is Christopher Dorsey, made news earlier this year when a compassionate release request was denied for the third time. Media outlets reported that U.S. District Judge Susie Morgan rejected the motion after three days of deliberating.
B.G. entered his first motion in May 2020. He petitioned for an early release in a letter to the court. In the handwritten statement, he addressed his harsh upbringing and rap career. He stated that he accepted “full responsibility” for his crimes but felt “enough was enough” regarding his punishment.
Judge Morgan ultimately denied the request. She decided the rapper’s behavior in prison was too similar to the action that initially landed him behind bars. She cited nearly a dozen rule violations, including possessing weapons and using drugs. Some violations went back seven years.
Some of the infractions included possession of narcotics and possession of a hazardous tool, and refusing a work assignment.
