Legendary boxer Mike Tyson is looking to become a heavyweight in the marijuana industry by breaking new ground on a 40-acre ranch in California to serve as a resort for users and growers.
The 51-year-old former heavyweight champion and a few business partners purchased the land last month to create a “cannabis resort” located in California City, a town in the Mojave Desert north of L.A.
On Dec. 20, he and his business partners Robert Hickman and Jake Strommen were joined by California City Mayor Jennifer Wood to celebrate the possible economic boost to the city. In the 1950s, the city was built as a counter to Los Angeles but it never really took off the way it was intended. City officials are banking on the marijuana industry to change that.
Branded as Tyson Ranch, 20 acres of land will be used as a lab to allow professional growers to cultivate new strands and technology to advance research on medical marijuana. The Ranch will also feature a Hydro-feed plant and supply store, an extraction facility, edible factory, premium “glamping” campgrounds and cabins and an amphitheater.
According to The Blast, Tyson and his partners look to help veterans with PTSD with their products. The ranch is only a few miles away from Edwards Air Force Base. It has become a priority for the company named Tyson Holistic, that will run the resort.
Recreational marijuana became legal in the state of California on Jan. 1, 2018. Businesses and entrepreneurs have already begun to make plans to cash in on the new market. But it seems Tyson might be ahead of the curve.
