Jasmine Hartin, a Canadian businesswoman who works with the son of a British billionaire, has been arrested and charged in the shooting death of Henry Jemmott, a police officer in Belize.

The 32-year-old partner of Andrew Ashcroft, whose father is British billionaire Lord Michael Ashcroft, was taken into custody on Friday after Jemmott was found dead in the water off a pier, The DailyMail reported.

The 42-year-old superintendent was shot behind the ear with his own weapon and found by a security guard at the pier near Hartin's apartment in San Pedro, Belize. The guard, who also encountered Hartin at the scene after he heard gunshots, said the woman was hysterical and covered in blood.

In a statement to police, Hartin said she had invited the officer to her apartment to discuss her personal security. After meeting at the apartment, the pair allegedly walked a short distance to a wooden pier. Hartin said she then started giving Jemmott a massage because he was having shoulder pain. According to the 32-year-old suspect, the policeman was accidentally shot with his own gun as she gave the weapon back to him after he had put it down on the dock.

Attorney Godfrey Smith said his client now remains in jail as she;'s been denied bail.

"The charge is manslaughter by negligence. Bail has been denied. We appeal to the Supreme Court as is normal," Smith told reporters.

According to Independent, Hartin's LinkedIn profile describes the businesswoman as director of lifestyle and experience for Andrew Ashcroft’s luxury Alaia resort, with a previous stint as a real estate associate for SANCAS Realty Ltd.

The Alaia resort website previously detailed Hartin's role in helping build the business.

“Along with her husband, Andrew Ashcroft, Jasmine has played an integral role in shaping the vision for Alaia Belize from the very beginning,” stated a page on the website, which is now deleted, according to The Sunday Times.

Despite the statement on the website, it's not clear whether the duo is married.

Jemmott's loved ones are now desperately searching for answers.

"He had five children and a partner for 14 years. Every time I look at my nieces and my nephews I break down and cry. Please tell us what happened," his sister Marie told The DailyMail. "What I would say to Jasmine is, give closure to the family. Tell us what happened. We want to know for the benefit of our family. He was my only brother."
