Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene has yet again opened her mouth to make offensive comments and is being called out for her words.

This time, the Republican member of Congress evoked George Floyd‘s name to denigrate him, Democrats and members of the media.

Greene uses George Floyd to criticize Democrats.

Angered that Democrats have accused Republicans like Greene of worshipping former President Donald Trump even after his felony conviction, Greene went on an expletive-laden rant to reporters following a House subcommittee meeting on Monday. Greene decided to bring up George Floyd, who had nothing to do with that day’s hearing on the COVID-19 pandemic, arguing that he was also a convicted felon. She declared, “You all too, the media — worship George Floyd. Democrats worship George Floyd. There were riots burning down the f**king country over George Floyd.”  Seemingly proud of her remarks, Greene posted the exchange on X, formerly known as Twitter.

‘Unhinged’ and ‘unacceptable’

In response to Greene’s remarks, the Congressional Black Caucus tweeted a statement saying her words were “unhinged” and “her actions are unacceptable even by the lowest of Republican standards.” The statement added that “George Floyd did not deserve to die, and a member of Congress should have the decency to acknowledge his humanity.”

Greene’s repeated missteps

This outburst is the latest in a long line of offensive remarks from Greene, who has been criticized for everything from harassing school shooting survivors to spreading antisemitic conspiracy theories about space lasers. Greene recently went after Texas Rep. Jasmine Crockett during another hearing, leading to an epic clapback from Crockett that dominated social media for days. Greene’s latest remarks came as a House subcommittee held hearings on the COVID-19 pandemic, with former director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, Dr. Anthony Fauci, testifying. In addition to her insults about Floyd outside the chamber, Greene used her time in the hearing to disparage Fauci, refusing to call him “doctor” and declaring that he belonged in prison, pushing right-wing conspiracy theories about him and the COVID-19 response.

As the partisan divide within Congress remains bitter in this election year, Greene will likely continue to make outrageous statements that draw attention to her and push her far-right agenda. And she will likely continue to be called out by those who find her statements offensive and unbecoming of a sitting member of Congress.
