It is not uncommon to hear a child say “I want to be a police officer when I grow up,” and Madison Pruitt is no different. Madison has been battling a rare muscular cancer that has been impeding her body but not her spirit. On Wednesday, she was scheduled to spend the day at the Chicago 6th District police station, but ended up not feeling well enough to make the trip. The officers were saddened to hear she could not make it and decided to surprise her instead.
Before she knew it, about 70 officers showed up to her house to give Madison the day she dreamed of. Some of the officers even showed up on patrol horses. Her social worker was awe stricken by the amount of officers who showed up and Madison’s grandmother said it will be a day they never forget. And to add to the momentous day, interim Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson presented Madison with an Award of Valor.
