A disgruntled fan tackled comedian Dave Chappelle while he performed on stage Tuesday night at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles for the Netflix Is a Joke Fest. Chappelle’s security immediately escorted him off stage and police apprehended the suspect, Reuters reports.

Shortly after, Chris Rock took to the stage and jokingly remarked, “Was that Will Smith?” Alluding to the incident at the 2022 Oscars where Will Smith stormed the stage at the Academy Awards and struck Rock for making a crack about his wife’s, Jada Pinkett Smith, bald head during the global telecast.

Video shared on social media shows the unidentified man likely had a dislocated shoulder and broken arm after he was repeatedly “stomped” by security and others on stage, Too Fab reports.

Los Angeles police said the male suspect was armed with a replica gun that could shield a knife blade, according to Reuters.

Chappelle is heard on video jesting his attacker was “a trans man” as he was removed, referencing the controversy the stand-up comic incurred recently after the release of his Netflix comedy special The Closer, in which he made anti-trans jokes, Reuters reports.
