A transgender Texas teen became emotional when he received a life-changing present for his birthday.
The day after his 18th birthday, Andrew walked into a classroom filled with his friends serenading him with the “Happy Birthday” song. He was surprised by that alone, so he certainly was not expecting what came next.
Once they finished singing, his peers handed him a certificate and envelope.
"Since you’re a legal adult, we raised enough money for you to change your name," his friend told him.
Andrew fell to his knees and cried upon receiving the gift. In order to legally change your name in Texas, you must petition the court, and a filing fee is usually required. There are also fees for changing legal documents such as a birth certificate.
“They’ve been planning it for a month and I’m surprised none of them slipped up or even hinted at it happening,” he told PinkNews.
Andrew posted the video to TikTok where it currently has over 900,000 likes. It was then posted to Twitter, not by Andrew but by an account that thought the video was heartwarming. It now has over 8 million views.

Twitter users were quick to send love and support to the teen and recognize how kind his friends are.

Besides the support from the internet, Andrew said those around him have also been encouraging.
He said Grand Prairie Fine Arts Academy is “a really safe place for people in the LGBTQ+ community.”
“All my teachers and fellow students have been so supportive of me ever since I came out,” he said.
@fluffiestboy Y’all make me ????????????????????
Following the outpouring of love, Andrew posted a TikTok of himself dancing, thanking everyone for the kind words. Since his video went viral on Twitter, he has also made an account and has shown everyone much appreciation.
