Jalisha Maxey-Deveraux's birth plan changed quickly when she suddenly went into labor three weeks early. Fox 31 reports the mom of two was preparing to leave the office and head to her baby shower when her water broke while she was in the CarHop Auto Sales Office bathroom in Lakewood, Colorado. Thankfully, her co-workers were able to jump in and assist in the emergency birth. “Never in a million years, felt like it was a movie,” Maxey-Deveraux told the outlet. “I called my husband. I think that these are real contractions at this point; they’re not Braxton Hicks anymore.”
“She was definitely having a contraction,” CarHop manager Libbie Roan told Fox 31. “I knocked on the door and asked if she was okay. She was like, ‘Yeah, I think I might be in labor,’ and I was like ‘OK’!”
Baby Jhersi was delivered by Jacob Cloutier, who was able to pull from his own experience when his own son was born.
“There’s a lot of screaming and a lot of … I don’t want to say anger … but pain going on. A lot of it, on my end, was just remaining calm, trying to keep her calm and trying to keep her breathing,” he said of the experience, according to Fox 31.
The healthy baby, now two days old, came into the world weighing 5 pounds, 9 ounces. Shortly after the baby was delivered, the fire department showed up to take care of the rest.
“We didn’t have any towels … we’re a business, we were not in the business of babies,” Roan said. “So we didn’t have a whole lot of supplies.”
The co-workers and the mom said they're thankful to have a healthy delivery.
“He stood up and did what he had to do and helped me out, and I really appreciate it because I don’t know if she would have been OK if he hadn’t,” Maxey-Deveraux told Fox 31.
