Damar Hamlin, the Buffalo Bills player who collapsed during Monday night’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals, is breathing without a tube for the first time since the terrifying incident. NFL Insider Ian Rapoport provided an encouraging update to fans on Friday:

“This is amazing: For the first time, Bills S Damar Hamlin is addressing the team via Facetime,” Rapoport tweeted. “The breathing tube is out, and he’s spent the morning speaking to various teammates on Facetime. Now, he’s delivering a message to the entire group, I’m told.”

ESPN’s Adam Schefter delivered another positive update on Thursday.

“Doctors said after Damar Hamlin awakened last night, he asked in writing who won the game,” Schefter tweeted. “Doctors told him: ‘Yes, you won. You’ve won the game of life.’”

The Buffalo Bills announced Friday that Hamlin FaceTimed the team and told them “Love you boys.”

As Blavity reported, Hamlin collapsed on the field after making a tackle in Monday’s game. Emergency medical personnel rushed to save the young man’s life while players, coaches and fans prayed for good news.

In the aftermath of the tragedy, fans have raised more than $8 million for Hamlin’s The Chasing M’s Foundation Community Toy Drive, an initiative he started in 2020 to give back to children in his hometown of McKees Rocks, Philadelphia.
