Elaine Welteroth announced on Monday she and her husband Jonathan Singletary are expecting their first child together, and she said the new experience is already teaching her so much.
"I'm so excited to finally share the excitement with our friends and extended community. It's been so hard to keep this a secret!" Welteroth told People. "I'm just excited to learn more about what this new life is here to teach us. I'm already learning so much from this experience. We are both excited to experience new levels of love."
"We always knew — God willing — that one day we would be parents, but no one talks about what it's like when that one day becomes today. Even with a husband, a house and a career, somehow I still didn't feel quite ready or adult enough to be somebody's mom. But there's nothing that compares to the blessing of the moment you hear that little heartbeat — it changes everything. You just surrender to God's plan and divine timing," she added.
The former The Talk host shared a video on Instagram, showing off her journey accompanied by her husband's upcoming single, "Lullaby."
"I'm freaking out right now. This baby looks exactly like Jonathan," she said in an Instagram showing off their pregnancy journey.
She and Singletary got married on May 10, 2020, after being engaged for more than three years. The ceremony took place on her Brooklyn stoop and was followed by a block party reception. According to Page Six, their wedding plans had to be changed a number of times due to the pandemic. The couple livestreamed the event for at least 200 family members and friends. Welteroth, the former editor-in-chief of Teen Vogue, opened up about the joyous occasion for Vogue.
"Everyone let loose and had a blast," she said.
The news comes just a couple of months after Welteroth announced she was leaving The Talk after only starring as a co-host for one season. She didn't cite a specific reason for her exit in her statement, which she issued on Instagram.
"I came to The Talk to break out of my own echo chamber and to join a diverse cast in helping to bridge some of the divides in our world through conversation and empathy. I'm proud of how I represented myself and my community. But as I always say: when the music changes, so must your dance!" part of the statement reads.
