Officers have recently charged a man with killing LaKevia Johnson, who shared a teenage son with Young Thug.
Johnson was gunned down outside Atlanta‘s Metro Fun Center on March 17, as Blavity previously reported. The altercation went down shortly after an argument ensued over a bowling ball, and it spilled into the parking lot. The shooter allegedly waited outside for 20 whole minutes before Johnson finally exited.
“I could hear her over the phone crying and screaming; then her best friend said she’s not breathing,” Johnson’s mother, Sherina Jackson, recalled. “Lost my baby all over a bowling ball.”
After two weeks of investigations into the matter, authorities finally apprehended the suspected gunman yesterday: 25-year-old Joshua Fleetwood. He was booked in Fulton County Jail and charged with felony murder, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
Fleetwood, who had a warrant out on him since early last week, has a history of crimes involving narcotics, fraud, trespassing, and police evasion. All in all, he has a total of 16 previous arrests.
“We are happy that Mr. Fleetwood is in our custody,” Ralph Woolfolk, the Atlanta Police Department’s homicide commander, said. “This was simply an escalated dispute, as depicted on video.”
Authorities also revealed that ballistic evidence and surveillance footage helped them link Fleetwood to Johnson’s death. Fleetwood had his first court appearance earlier this morning, though it’s currently unclear how it went down. However, jail records indicate that he is still in custody.
Young Thug has not publicly commented on the situation via Instagram or Twitter.
We continue to send our condolences to Johnson’s loved ones during this troubling time.
