Here’s a tip: Don’t do blackface.

Actress and comedian Sarah Silverman is learning this the hard way.

In an episode of The Bill Simmons Podcast, it was recently revealed that Silverman was fired from a movie because of her previous history with blackface. For those unfamiliar, Silverman appeared in blackface in “Face Wars,” the third episode of the second season of The Sarah Silverman Program.

“I recently was going to do a movie, a sweet part, then at 11 pm the night before they fired me because they saw a picture of me in blackface from that episode,” Silverman said. “I didn’t fight it. They hired someone else who is wonderful but who have never stuck their neck out. It was so disheartening. It just made me real, real sad, because I really kind of devoted my life to making it right.”

Seth Rogen also got caught up in a blackface controversy recently when blackface was put on stand-in actor for 11-year-old actor Keith L. Williams for his new film, Good Boys.
