There are arguments that need to be discussed. Which Aunt Vivian is the best one? Whitney or Mariah? Boyz II Men or Jodeci? Here at Blavity, we want to help those dialogues come to life. #TheFaceoff is our attempt to answer those conversations that happen in barbershops, salons, over dinner, and after a moscato or [insert dark drink of your choice] filled evening with friends. When it comes to hits, Usher has incredible amounts. But which album is the greatest!? 8701 or Confessions? We gotta know. We’ve provided arguments for both, along with some visual aids to help you remember how hard both these albums went.
In Support of 8701:
The Visuals:
You Remind Me
You Got it Bad
You Don’t Have to Call
The Argument:
- HITS. You can play 8701 front to back and keep rocking.
- Defined a generation: THis album is full of ballads that capture the raw and stressful experience of the 99 & the 2000s
- Every song feels like it could be a single, even if its not
- Usher had us believing he could infact fill a tiny portion of Mike’s shoes, at least from a charisma perspective
In Support of Confessions:
The Visuals:
Yeah!
Burn
Confessions Part II
The Argument:
- Baby Usher became Grown Up Usher, and his content started reflecting that.
- He demonstrates more of his vocal range and ability
- Pretend you don’t know the entire first verse of Confessions part II…I dare you.
- You can play Yeah! in a Soul Train line with you Aunty, and still get live tastefully.
