Geoffrey Keaton, a Texas resident, recalled shielding his 16-year-old daughter from a gunman who killed eight people and injured several others at an outlet mall Saturday afternoon in Allen, Texas.

In an interview with The New York Times, Keaton said they were having lunch at a Fatburger inside the Allen Premium Outlets when they heard gunshots, the Daily Mail reported.

“I immediately knew,” he said in the interview. “I got my baby girl under the counter to shield her, and they got louder like he was right there.”

Keaton said the restaurant manager allowed them and other customers to hide in the back during the deadly shooting. When they exited the building, Keaton recalled seeing bodies lying on the ground as they fled to their cars in the parking lot.

“You could see bodies of people he had shot on the sidewalk,” he told the outlet.

On Facebook, Keaton later shared the footage of the pair as they hid in the hallway with other patrons in the eatery. Meanwhile, another video captured them outside the establishment as law enforcement investigated the incident.

“All we wanted was a Fatburger,” he said in the video, stating his daughter only wanted a latte.

The shooting is described as the second-deadliest U.S. mass shooting of the year, with the incident still being investigated.

The suspect was identified as 33-year-old Mauricio Garcia of Dallas. On Sunday, FBI agents and Dallas police probed the suspected shooter’s home, searching for information about the alleged gunman.

Investigators found several handguns, long guns and ammunition inside Garcia’s 2014 gray Dodge Charger at the shooting scene, according to an exclusive search warrant obtained by WFAA.

Sources familiar with the situation told ABC News Garcia was in the U.S. Army in 2008 but was later discharged due to mental health concerns.

They also confirmed Garcia had adopted an extremist right-wing ideology and disliked Jews and people of color.

Governor Gregg Abbott, R-Texas, described the shooting as an “unspeakable tragedy.” He later attended a vigil for the victims and shared a tweet uniting the Texas community.

“The hearts of all Texans are with Allen, Texas. Tonight, I joined my fellow Texans in Allen for a community vigil for the innocent lives lost last night and those who are recovering from injuries. As this community heals, Texas will be with you every step of the way,” Abbott tweeted.
