Almost every time our favorite young rapper from Chicago makes headlines, he is spreading positivity with a sprinkle of black excellence, a dash of black boy joy and a pinch of philanthropy.
In August, Chance donated 30,000 free backpacks to Bud Billiken parade goers in Chicago; earlier this year he donated $1 million to the Chicago Public School system and he even teamed up with the NAACP to register people to vote during his Coloring Book tour.
However, as far as humanitarianism is concerned, the 24-year-old rapper is just getting started.
According to the Chicago Business Journal, Chance The Rapper will be cooking chicken for charity at the grand opening of a Nando's Peri-Peri next week in downtown Chicago.
Nando's says the move is part of the company's continuing support for nonprofits. The international chicken giant added that it has donated $225,000 to Chicago nonprofits and schools through initiatives at its other area locations.
This location will donate all of the proceeds from its sales during its first three days of operation to SocialWorks, Chance's non-profit that gives back to the youth of Chicago.
Chance announced earlier this year that SocialWorks will partner with Chicago's public school system to provide arts educations for its students. The rapper's work with the organization was one of the factors that led to BET giving him a humanitarian award a few months ago.
Nando's vice president of marketing, Sepanta Bagherpour, praised Chance's humanitarian spirit.
"At a young age, Chance the Rapper has endeared himself to Chicago and the nation through his talent and passionate commitment to his community. We can't think of a better ambassador to help Nando's celebrate the grand opening of our flagship Chicago location and help support public education in a city we love," Bagherpour said.
In addition to helping to raise money for his charity by cooking, Chance will hold an extended meet-and-greet to interface with his fans. He will also talk about the importance of supporting Chicago's public schools.
If you will be in Chicago on Tuesday, September 5, and would like to meet Chance and see if he's any good at cooking, you will be able to find him at 155 North Michigan Avenue.
