In a time where jobs are hard to come by, some people are allowed to get great jobs with little experience or completely filling out applications.

Florida Gov. Rick Scott named 34-year-old Taylor Teepell the finance director of the New Republican Super PAC.

Teepell has had about ten years of experience in politics but none of that experience qualified him for the role of head of growth management oversight in the Department of Economic Opportunity. This is the job Teepell held before becoming finance director and the position's salary was $110,000. The role as head of growth is described as driving “economic development and planning in the state’s rural and urban communities.”

“Prior to being hired at DEO, Taylor had years of government experience serving in senior roles for two governors including deputy chief of staff and deputy legislative affairs director under [former Louisiana] Gov. Bobby Jindal, and energy and environment policy adviser to [Mississippi] Gov. Haley Barbour,” Scott spokesman John Tupps told critics.

According to the Miami Herald, Teepell applied for the Department of Economic Opportunity position on Feb. 9, 2016, but did not completely fill out the application.

He referred to a two-page resume detailing all of his prior experience, most of which did not meet the qualifications of the job. In 2015, Teepell rented a townhouse from a former Scott official and learned about the position then.

Ryan Smart, president of 1000 Friends of Florida, pointed out that Teepell does not have the planning skills needed to be successful in a role like this. "DEO has become a rubber stamp for development proposals,” Smart told the Miami Herald.

To make matters worse, Teepell was given a $6,561 bonus when he left the job in May of this year.
