A horrific burn accident left one Georgia man feeling like he and his fiance shouldn’t go through with their wedding, but hospital staff members rallied together to ensure that the special ceremony still happened.
Peter Cobb had plans for the summer to be a special time since he had plans to marry his then-soon-to-be-wife, Tanesha, on July 22. A few weeks ahead of their “I dos,” he endeared a bad fall on the job that landed him in a chemical spill. The product he fell in had a temperature of 1,500 degrees Fahrenheit, which left one-third of his body harshly burned, according to the New York Post.
“I literally watched the skin from my elbow like detach and literally just go to dust and crumble,” Cobb told Fox Carolina. “I literally felt like that was going to be the end.”

Due to how life-threatening these injuries were, he was airlifted from the scene and transported to Augusta Burn ICU to be treated. The result of his burns caused him to lose nine of his toes and eight fingers, completely amputating four on his right and somewhat removing four from his left hand. Because his physical appearance changed, he was unsure Tanesha would still be interested in marrying him since he didn’t look like the man who proposed to her in September 2022. Lucky for him, her love was unconditional, surpassing his exterior.
“There’s nothing that would stop me from marrying him,” Tanesha told Fox Carolina. “Nothing. I knew that this day would come. I didn’t think it would be like this.”
While Cobb was steadily recovering, the original wedding date grew closer. They both wanted to be wed on the same day if possible despite the circumstances. Determined to make it happen, they were often discussing possible solutions. After overhearing some of the pair’s discussions about their wedding, a JMS Burn Center nurse at Doctors Hospital named Mary Cook, rounded up some of her coworkers to help fulfill the pair’s wish.
“I wanted to give him something positive out of all this negative. Preston was adamant that he was not going to change his wedding date,” Cook told the publication.
When her plan got approved, she immediately told the veteran the good news, which he and Tanesha happily accepted.
“She was like, ‘I got good news for you,'” Cobb said. “And I was like, ‘What’s that?’ and she was like, ‘You’re getting married on the 22nd.'”
The hospital hosted the wedding and the couple got married on their dream date in an intimate ceremony with the hospital nurses, friends and family gathered together to witness their beautiful romance and resilience. See picutres from the happy day below.

Cobb’s family set up a GoFundMe to help raise money for him while he’s unable to work.
“This campaign is to help offset the loss of income due to tending to our hero making sure he is getting stronger physically and mentally,” part of the GoFundMe post read. “These funds will help with things such as bills, daily living, and help support his wife and daughter Mahogany (16), son Jaikell (3), and his bonus son Armani (9).”
