Two sisters were involved in a fatal tractor-trailer accident on a Georgia highway in Hancock County on Sunday, according to WGXA News.

On Sunday, April 3, a few minutes before 8:30 p.m., is when the crash occurred. Alana McClain, 16, and Lauren McClain, 15, both residents of Sparta, were passengers in a black Lexus. The vehicle driver did not halt at a stop sign on Fairmont Road and drove through, crossing the path with a tractor-trailer on SR-15 that collided with the passenger side of the Lexus, WGXA News reports.

The driver’s identity has not been released to the public, based on the press release Georgia State Patrol, according to The News and Observer.

The driver suffered severe injuries and was airlifted to the hospital, The News and Observer reports.

“It will never feel right putting R.I.P by my little cousins names so I’m not … I remember them girls as babies and today will never sit right in my spirit,” posted the girls’ relative, Mallory Brown, on Facebook. “They were beautiful, smart, the sweetest girls a person could ever meet.”

Kyah Shenee, who works at the Sparta-Hancock County Library, said the girls would often sign up to volunteer at the library and provide assistance for the summer reading and other events.

“They were the most humble and respectful children I ever encountered,” Shenee said on Facebook. “Young queens who were going to do great things.”

Georgia State Patrol showed up at the devastating scene around 8:26 p.m. and did not release details of the tractor-trailer driver. State troopers are still investigating the accident, according to The News and Observer.
