On Monday terrorist attack, carried out by a suicide bomber outside of an Ariana Grande concert in England on Monday, left 22 people dead and 59 injured. The explosion occurred as concertgoers began exiting Manchester Arena at the close of the concert shortly after Grande had already exited the stage. Social media posts from the scene show the chaos that ensued as panicked fans rushed to evacuate the building.

"The attacker, I can confirm, died at the arena. We believe the attacker was carrying an improvised explosive device, which he detonated, causing this atrocity," said Chief Constable Ian Hopkins in a CNN interview. While the bombing itself was carried out by a lone suspect, according to ABC News, ISIS has claimed responsibility for the deadly explosion. In a statement, ISIS said that the caliphate soldier placed was specifically targeting Christians.

The concert marked the first of three scheduled UK performances on Grande's "Dangerous Woman Tour." Grande, who was not injured in the attack, took to Twitter several hours after the incident with a somber message.

A press release issued by the US Department of Homeland Security states, that the department is "closely monitoring the situation" and added that they are "working with our foreign counterparts to obtain additional information about the cause of the reported explosion as well as the extent of injuries and fatalities." It goes on to say, "at this time, we have no information to indicate a specific credible threat involving music venues in the United States. However, the public may experience increased security in and around public places and events as officials take additional precautions."

Our thoughts go out to the victims of this senseless tragedy.
