A GoFundMe account set up for Keaton Jones is no longer accepting donations as suspicions continue to mount over his mother's motives. The GoFundMe account, initiated on Saturday by a New Jersey man named Joseph Lam, raked in nearly $60,000 in donations before contributions were halted on Monday evening

A GoFundMe spokesman told the New York Daily News the funds raised on Lam’s page are paused until the company verifies a campaign beneficiary. The company is working to make sure the money goes to Keaton, the spokesman said.

Ten-year-old Keaton became an overnight sensation on Friday after his mother, Kimberly Jones posted a heart-wrenching video of her son tearfully describing his daily torment at the hands of school bullies. In response to the viral Facebook post, black influencers, celebrities and athletes rallied in defense of the young man. After the generous outpouring of kindness and support, remnants from Kimberly Jones' Facebook timeline resurfaced revealing a problematic history of racist posts.

The plot thickened after MMA fighter Joe Schilling posted an Instagram video saying that he reached out to Jones offering to take her son to a Los Angeles show, but said she just “wants money” and wanted him to share a GoFundMe page. Jones told Fox News she “did not tell him (Schilling) that I would rather have donations instead of the help from celebrities.”

Whatever the motives at play here, the fact remains that bullying is a very real and dire issue. Three weeks ago, 10-year-old Ashawnty Davis killed herself after being a victim of bullying. After a schoolyard fight was uploaded to the app Music.ly., the Colorado fifth-grader became depressed. “My daughter came home two weeks later and hanged herself in the closet,” said Ashawnty’s mother, Latoshia Harris.
