Keke Palmer went to social media on Saturday to share a troubling story about an encounter with a person who violated her privacy at a bar.
“No means no, even when it doesn’t pertain to sex. I was at the bar the other day and this girl asked me three times for a picture and I told her three times nicely that I did not want take one with her. She still preceded to film me against my will,” Palmer tweeted. “If I went off on her I would’ve been wrong, so I just nervously laughed while my privacy was invaded upon.”

Many of Palmer’s fan showed support for the actress.
I'm so sorry that your boundaries were not respected. I miss the life we had before social media. Now too many people feel the need to film & post photos of everything.https://t.co/zCdQgncTEY

People need to understand: Just because a person's chosen career path or profession puts them in the public's eye, it does NOT mean they have relinquished their right to privacy or to be left alone. Just tell them you love their work, their art, and then go on about your day.

Can we please stop this? EVERYONE has a right to privacy. Even celebrities. it’s so warped right now people really believe they are entitled to you, when your not on the clock. Yes, she’s a celebrity, but it’s also a job. You want to relax and have privacy after work, yeah? 👀

I’m sorry that happened. Beyonce once told a story where she was out shopping & got a phone call that her uncle passed. as she was hanging up, fans ran up for pics. She allowed it, but it taught me that U never know what ppl r going thru when u meet them or why they might say no.

people need to learn basic human decency and boundaries… just because u want something doesn't mean ur entitled to it.

Terilisha, a former participant on Netflix’s The Circle, also opened up about her own experience of being violated in public.
This! I’ve had people take pics of me in the bathroom, at court, on planes… and I have to be gracious even tho I’m highly uncomfortable. And if we say no we’re flexing or being stuck up… like we are people too. Just cause you “know” us from tv doesn’t mean you’re not a stranger

While there are no laws against filming in public, an establishment such as a restaurant or bar may have a rule against recording in the building. Lawyer Jennifer Ellis said people may be asked to leave if they’re breaking the rule of a private or government building.
“People can set rules for their own buildings, even if it’s a government building,” Ellis told The Verge. “So if you go into a Starbucks, and they say, ‘Put your camera down. You’re not allowed to film in here,” they can do that because it’s a private business.”
