Hold your breath. That’s what lawmakers of a Kenyan county assembly did after a member farted during a debate.

Proceedings were temporarily suspended for about 10 minutes while members let the odor dissipate after a lunch break in the Homa Bay chambers, according to Nairobi News.

As if that wasn’t bad enough, it was a hot afternoon and members had to resort to fanning themselves with papers to cool off.

Assembly member Juma Awuor was on the floor debating a topic when he was alerted by Presiding Speaker Edwin Kakach of a group of MCAs in a heated argument.

MCA Julius Gaya let the cat out the bag and pointed in the direction of the person responsible.

“Honorable speaker, one of us has polluted the air and I know who it is,” he said standing up.

The accused MCA denied playing his personal wind instrument in the chambers, BBC reported.

“I am not the one. I cannot do such a thing in front of my colleagues,” he told the speaker.

The speaker ordered the assembly’s sergeants to bring in air fresheners.

“Let the sergeant spray the air with fresheners to make it pleasant. Get whatever flavor you will find in any office, whether it’s vanilla or strawberry. We cannot continue sitting in an environment that smells bad,” Kakach ordered.
