Nothing can be done to make up for what happened to the Central Park Five. The $41 million they received as a settlement from New York City will never be able to change the years they lost and the abuse they suffered in prison.

But the oldest of the five, Korey Wise, is now utilizing his payout exactly as he deserves to.

After donating $190,000 to the Innocence Project at the University of Colorado Boulder a few years ago, Wise is now buying a Harlem apartment overlooking Central Park, reports the New York Post.

On July 3, Wise signed the $925,000 deal for the one bedroom, one bathroom 803-square-foot condo. The 46-year-old spent about $30,000 less than the listing price for the Harlem apartment.

Wise was 16 years old when he and four others — Raymond Santana, Kevin Richardson, Antron McCray and Yusef Salaam — were charged and convicted for the 1989 rape and assault of Trisha Meili in Central Park.

During the promotional run for Ava DuVernay's Netflix drama When They See Us, Wise said he was not involved with the situation at all and only went to the police station to support Salaam, who was underage at the time.

Somehow Wise ended up becoming a suspect despite no DNA evidence and served 12 years in a number of different prisons including Rikers Island. He was exonerated with the other four in 2002 after Matias Reyes admitted to the crime. The five sued the city of New York and received the settlement of $41 million.

Wise received the biggest share of the settlement — $12.2 million — and is now a public speaker and noted activist.

“You can forgive, but you won’t forget," he said in a 2012 documentary on what happened to him.

"You won’t forget what you lost…No money could bring the life that was missing or the time that was taken away.”
