Lil Baby‘s team is speaking out after a flyer popped up online stating the rapper would perform at a D.C. Pride event, with event organizers asking “tasteless” people to stop calling the rapper homophobic.

On Tuesday, LGBTQ+ event promoter Pride in the District announced on its social media page that Lil Baby would headline the main D.C. Pride event on Sunday, May 28.

The announcement was a shock to some, but attendees of the event seemed excited about the rapper’s performance.

Unfortunately, the group had to recant its announcement a day after the flyer appeared online. They had fallen victim to a scammer who posed as Lil Baby’s booking agent.

On Wednesday, the team made a post on Instagram stating they had “just been notified of the scamming situation” and were attempting to “contact Lil Baby’s proper management” to “rectify the situation.” They asked that all interested attendees “please stand by.” They later followed up with a post claiming they were still working on the issue. The group now offered local artists the chance to perform instead of the Grammy-winning artist.

Speculations and rumors began to swarm around the event as to who was telling the truth about the false booking.

Did the event producers post a false flyer and run off with ticket money? Or did Lil Baby decide not to perform due to backtracking on the LBGTQ+ community?

The Neighborhood Talk shared a statement from the rapper’s official team stating the artist was “never booked” to perform and “never even knew of the event.”

Some were still unconvinced that this wasn’t a case of the rapper being homophobic and backing out.

To confirm this was all a mix-up, Pride in the District posted yet another message confirming Lil Baby’s management team and booking agent were, in fact, not aware of the performance, and they were requesting for people to stop accusing him of being homophobic.

“We would appreciate it if the individuals calling Lil Baby homophobic would stop immediately because that is simply a personal opinion and simply put, tasteless,” the statement said in part. “Nobody knows this man personally to be saying that so stop it. We would like to move forward from this situation and enjoy pride the way it should be enjoyed.”

After doing their part to clear the rapper’s name, the event organizers made their “last and final post” regarding ticket sales. They claimed they had not sold any tickets for the event because the flyer was only up for “30 minutes” before the fallout happened.
