Well, everyone, I can’t say I’m surprised, but for the sake of news, and venting on my behalf, let’s go back. Chicago emcee Lupe Fiasco honestly had a roller coaster of a career, in my opinion, dropping his classic debut Food & Liquor in 2006 and following up with a solid sophomore album in the very next year with The Cool’. However, after citing label problems L.A.S.E.R.S was a letdown (yes I said, LETDOWN). The two albums that followed afterward were Lupe’s “comeback” if you will, but we still haven’t seen Lupe truly return to form.

And then this happened.

Tuesday morning, he tweeted from his protected account, "I get the hint God. Yo Lupe fans it's been fun and I hope you've had fun. I'm officially not releasing anymore music. Albums cancelled."

All of this comes after Lupe dropped "N.E.R.D" a track over a beat from J.Cole's 4 Your Eyez Only. Lupe's been catching heat for the line in the song where he says, "Artist gettin' robbed for their publishing / By dirty Jewish execs that think his alms from the covenant".

Hip-hop website DJ Booth came after the Chicago emcee for his remarks and from there, everything spiraled out of control. Lupe went after DJ Booth and fans where all types of negativity were exchanged, especially from the frustration that seems to have led to the abrupt retirement.

Now even I was skeptical when this came out, however like that Kermit meme, there was a side of me that was hype. Lupe was slated to release three albums, one of them being an instrumental album. It was the instrumental part that had me all in and pretty much convinced that he would come through.

Before you freak out, let us not forget that Lupe has retired at least 681 times. In the middle of the year, we heard the three albums were going to be pushed back due to sample clearances and mixing issues, but now it sounds like we’re getting nothing. Who knows what’s going to happen? Could this be a publicity stunt (because that’s what I think) or is the heralded emcee actually done?

What do you think?
