A 23-year-old man has been arrested after throwing eggs at King Charles III and Camilla, the Queen Consort, while they were visiting the city of York in England. According to PBS News Hour, the man was throwing eggs as the King and the Queen Consort were meeting local dignitaries in front of a large crowd. Video posted to social media shows several people booing the pair while the street was littered with eggs.

The couple didn’t appear to be hit by any of the eggs thrown in their direction. As the man was being arrested, several protesters shouted “this country was built on the blood of slaves.”

Others fought back against the protesters, chanting, “Shame on you” and “God save the King.”

Charles and Camilla attended a service at the city’s cathedral, York Minster, during their visit. They also unveiled a statue of the king’s mother, Queen Elizabeth II, who died in September.

According to the BBC, North Yorkshire police said there was a “well-rehearsed” security operation put in place ahead of the couple’s visit.

“I’m pleased to report that the policing operation and the overall wider visit was successful today,” Charlotte Bloxham, the commander for the security operation, told reporters. “An enormous amount of planning and preparation goes into visits of this nature. I would like to thank all the officers and staff that supported today’s operation.”
