It's no secret that Prince Harry is a fan of the Obamas, nor is it a secret that Meghan Markle has been critical of President Trump.

Prince Harry had a blast with Barack and Michelle Obama during his Invictus games this past September, as the NY Post reminds us.

Given their budding friendship, it's certainly no surprise that the royal couple would like to invite the Obamas to their wedding next year.

However, according to The Sun, the British government is a bit skittish about that given how they believe President Trump would react, particularly because there don't appear to be any plans to invite Trump to the wedding.

“Harry has made it clear he wants the Obamas at the wedding, so it’s causing a lot of nervousness," a senior government source said. “Trump could react very badly if the Obamas get to a Royal wedding before he has had a chance to meet the Queen."

President Trump was invited for a state visit by British Prime Minister Theresa May. However, the public and members of the government made it very clear that they do not believe President Trump is worthy or deserving of being so honored.

May was put under even more pressure to rescind her offer of a state visit, which would include an audience with the queen, after Trump retweeted anti-Islamic tweets posted by a member of the nativist Britain First group, the Telegraph reports.

Markle publicly expressed her disapproval of Donald Trump on The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore.

"Yes of course Trump is divisive," Markle said to Wilmore. "Think about just female voters alone."

While on the show, Markle also said, “I think it was in 2012, the Republican Party lost the female vote by 12 points. That's a huge number and with as misogynistic as Trump is and so vocal about it, that's a huge chunk of it."

Although Kensington Palace denied it, the Prince has reportedly made similar comments in private.

In the end, Prime Minister May will make the ultimate decision about whether or not the Obamas are invited to the wedding.

“Conversations are ongoing about and ministers will eventually have to decide. If the PM lays down the law, Harry will just have to suck it up,” said the government official.
