Former Murder She Wrote star Angela Lansbury heard the show’s namesake song for the first time more than two decades after the record was released.

The 93-year-old was delighted when she finally heard “Murder She Wrote” by Chaka Demus and Pliers during an interview with CBC Radio, reports Rolling Stone.

"That’s very funny. What are they? A group?" she asked the radio host.

She was told they were “sort of legends in reggae music."

“Oh, reggae. Oh, I’m thrilled to be part of reggae. Of course,” she replied.

Murder She Wrote, the show, premiered in 1984 and ran for 12 seasons. It went off the air in 1996.

“Murder She Wrote,” the song, was released in 1993. In a 2017 interview, Pliers revealed the duo recorded the song at least seven times before they settled on the radio version.

“The story behind that song is amazing, it is a testament to never giving up on what you know is a great song,” he told Loop Jamaica. “The first time I did it for Harry J Records in the 1987; it wasn't promoted properly but it was so good that I know (a big American musician) sampled one-one lyrics out of the original song for one of his hits, but it wasn't done in a way where I could claim."

Pliers didn’t mention the show when he shared the song’s origins. It was recorded over the course of five years with various producers. He knew he wanted to make the song because he couldn’t get the lyrics out of his head.

The song has been sampled by various artists including Omarion, French Montana and Pitbull.
