A 13-year-old boy from Georgia is accused of killing his mother, a Navy veteran, and then calling 911 after she was fatally shot in her home last week, People reported.
The victim, 37-year-old Dominique Bowers, was found dead by authorities in her Warner Robins, Georgia, home around 1:30 p.m. last Friday.
“Dominique Bowers, (37 yoa) of Warner Robins, is identified as the victim of homicide that occurred yesterday on Adirondac Way. Ms. Bowers is the mother of the 13-year-old juvenile that was taken in to custody,” a Warner Robins Police Department statement read.
Police officers located and apprehended the suspect, which Warner Robins Police have confirmed as Bowers’ teenage son.
Bowers was a former Builder Petty Officer 2nd Class in the U.S. Navy and previously worked for the Virginia Department of Transportation, according to her Facebook page. She also studied psychology at Roanoke College and her profile says she got engaged in Dec. 2019.
Officials have not revealed what led up to the fatal incident and whether the mother and son lived together.
The teenager, who the police have not named, is being charged with murder and aggravated assault and is being held at the Crisp County Youth Detention Center.
According to data compiled by HomeSnacks, Warner Robins reported 269 aggravated assaults and three killings per 100,000 people. The report indicated that the area’s crime rate is about 112% above the national average.
