Nicki Minaj Appears In Rap Categories On Grammy Ballot, Just Not For The Song She Wants

Continuing to vent in her live video, Minaj said there is “an agenda” against her in the music industry and a “concerted effort to give newer artists things that they really don’t deserve over people who have been deserving for many years.”

“The people who control a lot of things behind the scenes, they have to elevate someone that they profit off. So they must move the goalposts for me all the time,” Minaj said. “Why is the goalpost only ever moved when it’s Nicki? Well, I’ll tell you why. They don’t want the people who they have in the industry to have to go up against me.”

Minaj believes that her song may have been moved to make room for Latto’s “Big Energy” track in the rap category.

“If ‘Super Freaky Girl’ is pop, then so is ‘Big Energy’,” she said. “If you move ‘Super Freaky Girl’ out of rap and put it in pop, do the same thing with ‘Big Energy’. Same producers on both songs, by the way. So let’s keep s**t fair.”

According to Variety, Minaj still appears eight times on the Grammy ballot — once in the pop category, twice in music videos, and five times in the rap category.

Minaj’s “Do We Have a Problem?” track, which has a featured appearance from Lil Baby, is one of the songs placed in the rap category on the Grammy ballot — up for best rap performance.

The Grammy committee appears to consider “Do We Have a Problem?” as more of a true hip-hop song, while “Super Freaky Girl” is seen as more pop in nature, Variety reports.

“Blick Blick,” a track Minaj shares with Coi Leray, is in contention for best rap performance and best rap song, while “Love in the Way,” featuring BLEU, is in contention for best rap song and best melodic rap performance.

According to the BBC, Minaj has been nominated for 10 Grammys during her career, including seven times in the rap category.
