During his first week on the job, Atlanta Officer Milton Che was called into a Family Dollar store where a 12-year old was being held for trying to steal a pair of $2 shoes.

Instead of taking her in, Officer Che decided to hear the young girl out, who explained the harsh living conditions in her seven-person household. According to Che, her house was in a rough neighborhood and the girl slept on a sheet on the floor instead of a bed. “I saw the conditions. There was no food in the house and the kids were there,” Milton told CNN. The young officer took it upon himself to buy four large pizzas for the family in February and has since dropped off diapers as well as checked in on the family since then.

After the department got wind of Che's good deed, they decided to share the Staple Family's story and received an overwhelming amount of support from people within the community. “The way that Officer Milton handled this incident showed that not only is he here to enforce the law but also to go the extra mile and be a bigger part of the community he is policing,” the City of Atlanta Police Department told CNN.

We need more officers like Officer Milton in our communities. What a difference he's made in this family's life already!
