Sherry Yvonne Smith, the president and CEO of the Black Wall Street Chamber of Commerce, died at her Bixby, Oklahoma, home, police confirmed, according to KTUL.

Police said the incident seems to be “domestic in nature,” but they have not publicly released any further information due to an ongoing investigation.

Greenwood Chamber of Commerce President Freeman Culver confirmed her death, KJRH reports.

Her husband, Martin Everett Smith, who was in critical condition, later died at the hospital.

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation is aiding the Bixby Police Department in investigating the incident.

Sherry has served as president and CEO of the Black Wall Street Chamber since its inception in 2018, KJRH reports.
