Rapper Tee Grizzley’s aunt, who is also his manager, was killed after an unknown gunman shot at his car.
The shooting happened on Tuesday night in Detroit, according to iHeartRadio. Sources said Grizzley was the intended target. His aunt reportedly sustained multiple shots and died shortly after.
Grizzley’s condition and whereabouts are unknown.
Two years ago, Tee shouted his aunt out on his Facebook page.
The 25-year-old started rapping in middle school but didn’t take it seriously until years later.
In 2015, he was sentenced to up to 15 years in prison for robberies on the campus of Michigan State University while he was a student. The time behind bars made him more dedicated to his craft.
Tee wrote every song on his first mixtape, My Moment, while he was incarcerated. The mixtape was later released in April 2017.
“First Day Out,” the mixtape’s lead single, has been streamed more than 190 million times on Spotify, and the music video has more than 128 million views on YouTube.
“I started rapping when I was young, like 12, 11. But I wasn’t really talking about nothing and it didn’t really get me nowhere,” he told Complex in 2017. “But then when I got locked up and I saw all these other people winning, Meeks, Future, Drake and all these people, I was like, something’s gotta change. So I just started telling my story. I wasn’t trying to be like them, I was just like, lemme tell my story. There’s a lot of people who can relate to me, like on 'First Day Out,' talking about my case. It went crazy.”
MEAWW reported hours before the shooting that the rapper had released a song titled, “Next Up” with Sada Baby on Soundcloud.
