It's being reported that Mr. Yeezy himself has cut ties with Tidal. Tidal, Jay-Z's subscription based music streaming service, apparently owes Kanye $3 million dollars.
Sources close to Tidal spilled to TMZ that Kanye was supposed to receive a bonus for raking in over 1.5 million new subscribers to the seaming service with the 2016 release of his album The Life of Pablo. Originally, the album was streaming exclusively on Tidal forcing Kanye fans to get Tidal in order to hear his latest work. Despite the boost in profile for the company that Kanye drove, long story short, he ain't get no money. He also was never reimbursed for music videos, to which Tidal says he didn't deliver the videos he owed them.
These sources also say that a month ago, Kanye's lawyer sent a letter to Tidal, saying the company was in breach and the contract was terminated. After a couple of weeks of lawyers for both sides trying to find a resolution, they were unable to come to an agreement. Therefore, Kanye's lawyer lawyer sent off a second letter declaring again the contract was over.
Things get messy because this news is breaking after the release of Jay-z's album 4:44. There are some lyrics on a track titled "Kill Jay-Z" that seemingly take a shot at Ye.
“I know people backstab you, I feel bad too / But this f*** everybody attitude ain’t natural / But you ain’t the same, this ain’t KumbaYe / But you got hurt because you did cool by ‘Ye / You gave him 20 million without thinkin’ / He gave you 20 minutes on stage, f*** was he thinkin’? / ‘F*** wrong with everybody?’ is what you sayin’ / But if everybody’s crazy, you’re the one that’s insane"
Despite all that shade, Kanye's suit predates the release of the album, even though that would've added some honey to the tea. We have to see how this will play out, but this feud is so unfortunate. It was all good just a week ago.
