Shaq for Sheriff?! Sounds unlikely, right? Well, it's happening, folks.

Shaquille O'Neal recently told 11Alive News that while his popularity in the Metro Atlanta area won't necessarily lead him to running for mayor, he does have a desire for a role as a sheriff.  “In 2020, I plan on running for Sheriff,” said the former basketball star and frequent NBA commentator.

He's already gathered a bunch of Metro Atlanta citizens on his side with various good deeds such as buying a struggling 60-year-old doughnut landmark, paying the funeral expenses for a teen that died of an accidental self-inflicted gunshot wound and visiting and financially taking care of a 5-year-old girl who was mauled by a dog.

As far as possibilities for the location of Shaq's service?

Well, they are endless. Shaq is a resident of Henry County, Georgia, and the Henry Country Sheriff is up for reelection in 2020. And if he prefers, he could run in Florida where he also has residency.

And then there's a third option: he could move between now and 2020, and establish new residency somewhere else.

Shaq has already dropped a whammy with the announcement itself, so the "where" could be just as much of a surprise.

“I haven’t made my mind up yet,” he said.

“This is not about politics. This is about bringing people closer together,” Shaq explained in regards to why he would run. “You know, when I was coming up, people love and respected the police, the deputies. And, I want to be the one to bring that back, especially in the community I serve.”

Shaq also noted that his "everyman" status would bode well for the campaign, stating, “I can put on a suit and have a conversation with Bill Gates. I can go in the hood and talk to the homies, and talk to the children.”

As far as his background, he’s been sworn in as an honorary deputy in Clayton County, but doesn't have much law enforcement experience. Shaq assured that he'd make up for the lack of experience noting, “I know how to run a team. My style is going to be to surround myself with guys who have been doing it way longer than I’ve been doing it. Surround myself with smarter people.”

Shaq ended the interview in true Shaq form exclaiming, “Shaq for Sheriff! Back to the old school.”

Given our current federal administration, I guess anything could happen in the political world, so let's definitely not rule this out as a possibility!
