Spotify is not here for those white supremacist playlist…anymore. On Monday Digital Music News posted an article listing 37 white supremacist hate bands that could be found on the streaming network. In response to that write-up, Spotify wiped its service of any content posted by "white supremacist hate bands" as defined on a list put out by the Southern Poverty Law Center back in 2014.

In a statement to Billboard, a spokeswoman for the platform said that while the music in its catalog comes from hundreds of thousands of record companies and aggregators all over the world, and those are "at first hand responsible" for the content they deliver, "illegal content or material that favors hatred or incites violence against race, religion, sexuality or the like is not tolerated by us."

This move makes Spotify the latest mainstream platform to band hate groups, pushing them further into the fringes. Hate sure seems like a lot of work, why don't ya'll give it a rest?

It'll be interesting to see what other streaming services follow suit.
