The Trump administration has been thinning at rapid rates, with the most recently thanks to several CEOs leaving his manufacturing jobs council, and the entire committee on the arts and the humanities resigning.

This time, a member of Trump's inner circle is out at the White House.

The New York Times reports that Steve Bannon is leaving his post as President Trump’s chief strategist.

Bannon helped to engineer Trump's 2016 victory, but faced constant criticism for his ties to the alt-right. Before joing the Trump campaign, Bannon served as an executive for self-proclaimed "platform for the alt-right" Brietbart News.

During his time at the White House, Bannon helped to craft the Muslim Ban, and briefly served on the National Security Council.

According to the White House, Bannon's departure was something all parties felt was the right thing to do.

"White House Chief of Staff John Kelly and Steve Bannon have mutually agreed today would be Steve's last day. We are grateful for his service and wish him the best," stated White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders.

Bannon has said that he resigned two weeks ago, and that his departure was supposed to have been announced at the beginning of this week. However, it was reportedly pushed back to make way for the president's statements on Charlottesville.

After the Times broke the story, conflicting reports of Bannon's exit emerged.

CNN reports that several White House officials have told the agency that Bannon was actually forced out.

Shaking the table!

CNN reports that Bannon and Trump often butted heads during his tenure in the White House. “Steve was never a team player," said a senior administration official.

Bannon himself seemed to suggest this in a recent interview with The American Prospect that many of his colleagues, including the president, apparently weren't very pleased with.

In the interview, he condemned the Trump administration's North Korea approach as foolish, telling the Prospect "I don’t know what [Trump is] talking about, there’s no military solution here, they got us," and spoke about getting rid of officials he didn't like, gleefully proclaiming that his enemies at the White House were "wetting themselves."

Bannon also contradicted his boss in the interview, calling the white nationalist movement a "collection of clowns" and "losers."

The Prospect believes that their "article that likely pushed Steve Bannon … out the White House door."

The publication's colleagues at CNN have had some conversations that back this up:

Although we may never know exactly what happened, it is clear that the president is down one very controversial advisor.
