As a dark skin woman, I face a myriad of skin issues. First, it is very hard to find the right shade of foundation for my skin. I’m not alone in this struggle. There are so many different tones of black girl magic that don’t fit in a traditional foundation tone scheme. We are limited in choices and in some cases forced to mix shades together in order to find one that gets as close to our shade as possible. Not only do we have problems finding the right shade at makeup counters, but we also have to struggle to find a product that helps us maintain healthy skin. Many of us can agree that it’s difficult to find a product that addresses hyperpigmentation and uneven skin tones for black women.

Fellow BGM member, Angela Bassett understands our struggle. Bassett who has gorgeous, glowing and amazing skin takes dermatology very serious. She has partnered with friend Dr. Barbara Strum to create a skin care line that deals with some of the issues that we face.

The line is called “Darker Skin Tones by Dr. Barbara Sturm” and will be available in July.

Bassett told Women’s Wear Daily in April that women should be in tune with what’s going on with their skin and familiar with products that work for them.. “And to see what is good for it and ingredients that are helpful — and not invasive or irritating. I like them to be pleased when they look in the mirror, to feel good about themselves and the condition of their complexion,” Bassett said.

The line includes five products: 150-ml. foam cleanser; a 75-gram enzyme cleanser; a 50-ml. face cream; a 50-ml. face cream rich, and a 30-ml. hyaluronic serum. It is priced from $58 for a cleanser to $335 for a hyaluronic serum. The skin care line will be sold exclusively in stores and online at Harrod’s.

Aunt Angela is 57 years old out here not looking a day over 39, it’s about time she bottled up and sold her beauty secrets.
