Over the past few days, Lil Nas X has talked about his love for the word “b**sy” on social media. In a series of tweets, he shared his appreciation for the term, even noting that he used the term in a song. Now, for Pride Month, he wants “b**sy” to get its rightful place in the dictionary, and it looks like that desire may be a possibility.
According to Out, the rapper first tweeted about the word on Friday, telling followers “i finally said b**sy in a song and i have never been happier.” Two days later, he called for it to be added to the dictionary.
“For pride month it’s really important that our government finally takes a stand and adds b**sy to the dictionary,” he wrote.
Dictionary.com caught wind of the tweet and replied, saying that they could potentially make the addition happen.
“We added WAP to the dictionary, so anything’s possible,” they wrote.
The rapper shared Dictionary.com’s response with glee.
“Wake up!” he told followers. “We might be getting b**sy added to the dictionary!!!”
The word blends the words “boy” and “p***y” to describe the anus. Out reports that while the word has made its way to larger audiences, it has existed for years. First online uses of the word trace back to 2007, when an Urban Dictionary user uploaded the word and defined it as a “slang term used by gay men to connote Boy-P***y.”
As of late, Lil Nas X has been using his platform to stand up for himself and the LGBTQ+ community. As Blavity previously reported, he called out BET for not recognizing his music at this year’s BET Awards, a snub he said is indicative of homophobia embedded into Black culture.
